Make Polluters Pay — California

Share

Across California, GreenFaith Circles and coalition partners are working together to advance the Make Polluters Pay campaign — a movement to hold fossil fuel corporations accountable for the climate damage they have knowingly caused.

For decades, oil and gas companies have made enormous profits while communities across California face the consequences: devastating wildfires, extreme heat, drought, floods, and rising costs for recovery and adaptation. People of faith believe those who caused the harm should bear the cost — not working families, frontline communities, or future generations.

GreenFaith Circles across the state are mobilizing congregations and community members to support legislation that would require major fossil fuel corporations to contribute to a climate recovery fund. These resources would help California invest in climate resilience, disaster recovery, and a just transition to clean energy.

Through public witness, advocacy, and grassroots organizing, GreenFaith leaders are partnering with environmental justice organizations, labor allies, and climate coalitions to ensure that California’s response to the climate crisis is rooted in justice, accountability, and care for creation.

Together, we are building the moral movement needed to ensure that polluters pay — and communities thrive.
