Why Religious Communities Must Pressure Banks to Phase out Finance
for Fossil Fuels while Upscaling Investment in Clean Energy

Around the world, people of faith are increasingly aware of the dangerous, escalating impacts of the climate crisis. Hardly a week passes when we do not hear about scorching heat waves that imperil the elderly, infants, and expectant mothers; droughts that force small farmers to abandon their crops and livestock; wildfires that leave families homeless and destitute; floods that claim lives and destroy communities.

Banks are financing this destruction. This is wrong, and must stop.

GreenFaith is working alongside religious and secular organizations to call on the world’s largest banks to phase out their finance for coal, oil and gas, while upscaling their support for renewable energy. This report is designed to provide a background for that campaigning activity.
